  • Sugarplum tomatoes 2

This was an exercise to see what kind of image I could make in under 5 minutes. It’s nice to have a time limit!

I see these trees everywhere along the roadside in san francisco. They look both haggard and jubiliant simultaneously.

  • Encinitas

We have solidified plans to go back to Encinitas this summer. I am looking forward to seeing the cliffs again.

I cannibalized some old, unfinished acrylic paintings and am using them for collage. I have been missing the opacity of acrylic–maybe I need to go get myself some gouache…watercolor has been feeling too laborious, and not powerful enough. I am still feeling creatively restless, trying to arrive someplace where there might be some flow.

  • Sutro Tower

Parked at the side of the road today to take in this vista. Finally, some sun! I am still feeling creatively lethargic…days like these I just need to remind myself that the excitement will come back, some way, some how.

  • Exhausted, again

One of those days…we had a lovely morning at the Discovery Museum–the sun is finally out and the gg bridge and headlands looked gorgeous today….theo decided NOT to nap and spent the majority of the time jumping in his crib. I went in to discover that he had taken his thomas trains and scraped them all over the wall near his crib. I guess I should honor his urge to draw, but somehow I didn’t envision that I’d have to repaint today. By the time I got to draw I felt out of myself–irritated, unable to calm down and so I just wrote and wrote and wrote about it. Feeling a bit calmer now, but I feel stuck in my drawing, as if I don’t have anything to say and I can’t slow down enough to listen to the drawing and let it lead me, either. Harumph.

  • New Year, New Book, New Materials

This is the first drawing of the year. I am using water-soluable oil pastels and collage (thank you pittsburgh santa!). Below is one of 12 books that my sister and I made over the holiday for a full year of sketching!
